Up-Coming Workshops

Villa Musica's intensive weekend workshops give intermediate to advanced musicians an opportunity to improve their skills or learn new repertoire in a small group setting with some of the best instructors San Diego has to offer. Workshops usually focus on a particular skill set, time period, genre, or composer and run Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. Some workshops begin with a public lecture on the subject matter Friday evening, and others end with a public performance Sunday afternoon.

We are offering the following Weekend Workshops for the Academic Year 2009-2010:

The Villa Musica Workshop Mission

In order for music learning to be successful, students should be given the opportunity to grasp ideas and techniques in small, intimate groups, where individual attention is paramount. It is for this reason that Villa Musica’s workshop series class sizes are so limited.

In keeping with the ethos of community music education throughout the world, Villa Musica tries also to eliminate elitist attitudes that intimidate and alienate students in this environment, and encourages openness and a sense of collaboration in all that we do.

It is therefore a priority for us to highlight that auditions are not necessary to participate in these workshops, and places are allocated on a first-come first-served basis. However, it is important that the potential student verifies the suitability of their chosen workshop by reading, carefully, the course description and, when directed, prepares appropriate repertoire for discussion and direction during the workshop sessions
