Villa Musica's Summer Camp for Young Singers - 2008!
For the third year in a row, Villa
Musica will be offering a one week intensive day camp for young singers
ages 11-18. The camp combines solo and group vocal
instruction with workshops on acting, movement, and other issues
pertaining to singing.
Each morning, students join in a physical awakening session of yoga – allowing
their bodies, minds and voices to unify for a vocally demanding and
diverse schedule of singing and voice related classes. Following a vocal warm-up, camp director Dr. Fiona
Chatwin will conduct an ensemble rehearsal covering recital repertoire
from popular Broadway shows as well as a variety of pieces from a
broad range of musical genres.
Afternoons are filled with master classes and guest lectures by local
artists who will talk about various issues pertaining to singing,
allowing the students the opportunity to rest their voices and
experience other facets of the discipline of singing. Throughout the
week, each student will receive one private lesson as well as numerous
opportunities to sing both solo and ensemble repertoire as deemed
suitable by the lead instructor. The week culminates in a performance
for friends and family on Friday night. The camp is a great opportunity
to learn new repertoire, while having fun and making new friends.
