Why an Orchestra? Orchestra
participation is a template for success in a young persons life.
Teachers and educators report significant positive changes in the
confidence, creative thinking and general focus of students who are
part of an orchestral community.
Over three decades ago,
Venezuelan economist Jose Abreu created El Sistema, a program that
teaches orchestral music to 300,000 of Venezuelas poorest children.
Its graduates include the world-renowned Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra
and its achievements demonstrate the power of ensemble music to
dramatically change the life trajectory of hundreds of thousands of a
nations youth.
Inspired by this model, Villa Musicas Orchestra Project
focuses on learning through performing and fosters the art of
orchestral playing at an early age. The Orchestra Project is a 30-week
program that runs the full academic year. It is open to all students in
grades 3 through 8 who play a string instrument at the beginner or
intermediate level.*
Students meet three times a week for a
total of three hours. Performances for family, friends and community
members take place during the months of December, March and June. See
below for detailed schedule and tuition information.
*
After 2010, the Orchestra Project will expand to include students of
wind, brass and percussion instruments. Read on for information on the
feeder project available to younger students who are at the complete
beginner stage.
Did you know ? *
Enrolling your children in a comprehensive music education program is a
fundamental investment in their future success socially and
academically.
* The Orchestra Project costs less per day than a cup of coffee.
*
In Latin and South America, music programs such as the Orchestra
Project have been shown to prevent criminal behavior, drug abuse and
other problems that children in impoverished circumstances face every
day.
