Villa Musica’s Early Childhood Music classes introduce children to music through purposeful play and active music making. Orff-Schulwerk is an approach to music teaching and learning, combined with and supported by movement, based on things that children like to do: sing, chant rhymes, clap, dance, and keep a beat or play a rhythm on anything near at hand. The pedagogical materials used in the Orff classroom include poems, rhymes, games, songs, dance, and instrumental music. At the heart of all of this is improvisation – the instinct children have to create their own music.
